For a long period of time, the smoke and noise pollutions from night markets have been annoying residents at Shengli Block. Despite many complaints to government hotline and media, the problem was not solved until recent.

During the City and Countryside Cleaning Project, the night markets were arranged and cleaned by local government. In replacement of the former markets, Shengli BBQ City was built at the same place with better hygienic standards and management, which successfully dealt with the problem of disorders while respecting job opportunities for casual employers.

The project has also made change at Niupin Village of Chengzhong District. Before the mass cleaning, there were 1300 illegal contemporary stalls and over 1000 unregulated household, with poor infrastructure and disordered garbage spots. From 28^th of April this year, the problem was solved by local government, taking over 10,000 policemen and law enforcement officials, 2500 countryside workers and over 500 equipments and machines. This took about one month, among which it took one week to remove constructional rubbish. 

In response to this huge change, secondary school student Luo Yumei said: I was rushing out of here in the past but now the place is like a natural SPA and we all enjoy it.

Besides, the 3800-ton “rubbish hill” at Zhanggongling was also removed in the beginning of the year. Crowds of illegal gambling have also gone. Now these places are enjoyed by the public.

According to the demands of the project, mass cleaning has been focusing on city cleaning as well as major roads and suburban areas. To remove long-term hygienic problems is a efficient approach to achieve the goal of a clean city.

Despite being boring, statistics can show that:

For dirty spots: for a year, over 4000 dirty spots were removed as well as 107.3 thousand ton rubbish. Some long-term dirty sports such as the ones at Maoshan Road, Liuchang Road, Zhanggongling, Niuche Village were also totally removed. Besides, the road washing was increasing for protecting air against dust. Regulations were made to road dirt, with over 400 cases of road-dirt punishments; and the water protection at upper Liujiang River was focused.

For disorderly spots: five disorders including stalls, parking, rubbish-throwing, posters and construction sites have been dealt with. Roads with illegal stalls and parking before are now belonged to the public again. 13 road markets have been removed in the past half year. Long-term markets such as Qingyun road market and Zhegujiang road market were totally removed. Besides, better parking arrangement also makes better road condition. 8,259 parking spaces were assigned in major roads at urban area.

For illegal spots: 4148 illegal stalls with an overall 728 thousand square meter were removed. Compulsory remove of illegal buildings was taking place at Shengli Block, Zhegujiang Road, Donghuan Road, Liutai Road, Guiliu Road, Yaofu area, Dule area. This improves order of urban planning in the city.
