Ecological wetland landscapes of Dongque Lake in Queershan Park improve continuously
Date:2016-05-25 By:Jingwen Zhang Source:Liuzhou Daily

After more than a year’s careful maintenance, the 17600-square-meter-area including the end of Dongque Lake and the center island of the lake has become an ecological park filled with singing birds and fragrant flowers.

The Dongque Lake and Xique Lake in Queershan Park are both artificial lakes, whose water is mainly rain water.

By the end of 2014, the construction of sewage pipework along Que Lake in Queershan Park had been completed. The open-air sewage ditch was changed into totally enclosed underdrainage, which solved the problem of water pollution in Que Lake for years.

At the beginning of 2015, landscape transformation project was implemented in Dongque Lake of Queershan Park with a goal of ecological wetland.

To reach a balance between ecology and landscape, and to be great habitats for waterfowl and bird, flowering plants like Bauhinia, chorisia speciose were planted, and berry plants like guava were introduced as birdseed sources. There are 4,885 arbor and bush plants, 38,130 ground-cover plants and aquatic plants, with a total planting area of about 2,000 square meters.

The construction of ecological wetland is a part of works for constructing Liuzhou as a "sponge city". Urban ecological wetland, artificial lake can collect rainwater, and let rainwater infiltrate into the soil, which will achieve the purpose of reducing waterlog in the city.
