The award ceremony of the 12th China Civil Engineering Tien-yow Jeme Prize was held at the Xinjiang Hotel in Beijing on Dec 4. Liuzhou’s Partridge River Bridge (with the project name of Shuangyong Bridge), constructed by the Shanghai Engineering Bureau of the China Railway Engineering Corporation, was on the list of prizewinners.

The Tien-yow Jeme Prize is the highest prize in the field of China’s civil engineering. It was established in 1999 to encourage and reward projects which have made remarkable achievements in technological innovation and applications.

Liuzhou’s Partridge River Bridge is the first wide suspension bridge with a single main cable and single plane in China and also the one with the largest span. It is located in Hedong village’s Maozhou Tun, Chengzhong district, Liuzhou. Its north bank is located in the old wharf of Partridge River, linked with the north outer ring road. Its south bank is located in the north of the Maozhou Tun, linked with Shuangyong Avenue.

The bridge is 1,937 meters in length and its main tower is an A-type three-dimensional variable cross-section steel box structure, which is 105 meters in height.

The Shanghai Engineering Bureau of the China Railway Engineering Corporation has set up a technological research group to deal with the difficulties in techniques and quality of the key working processes. It has solved many problems such as a high-altitude operation of building the main tower and concluded successfully building a wide suspension bridge with single main cable and single plane.

The Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize was the second prize that Partridge River Bridge won after the China Construction Engineering Luban Prize. The bridge also won the first prize of the 2011 China Construction Enterprise Management Association Technological Innovation Award and the second prize of the 2013 China Highway and Transportation Society Scientific and Technological Award. The Partridge bridge has obtained five national invention patents, eight national utility model patents and four provincial construction methods since it started construction.
