Farmers have started reaping paddy early July this year. Different from previous years, they prefer working with combine harvester.

As insufficient labor at critical times in the harvest season, farmers would have to be working hard by themselves or employing someone with a high cost. And it costs 100 Yuan (RMB) to reap a 1-acre paddy field, while only 80 by a combine harvester. Thus most of them chose the machine.

According to an officer from the city’s farming mechanization center, farmers have been more and more shifting from labor work to machine-aided. And the ratio of harvester-aided paddy has increased from 4% to 11.4% last year. This figure is believed to jump up to 19.4% this year.
