During the 6.13 flood period, Honghua Village of Liujiang has suffered ground cracking and collapse, in which some resident places collapsed and destroyed. Specialists determined the village was no longer suitable to live and suggested mass evacuation. Yesterday (26th), secretary of Liuzhou CCP Chen Gang and government officials attended the meeting for this issue. Chen emphasized the importance of safety during the evacuation.
After hearing related reports, Chen made three requiremens:
Firstly, there must be no casualty for any geographical reason. Detail investigation must be done in all areas of the village and any dangerous place shall be evacuated as well. Emergent goods and basic livings shall be provided by the government for evacuated people.
Secondly, all the people from the fourth unit of the village must be evacuated to safe places. Related departments shall do research about appropriate locations within two months. Evacuation fees will be paid by the people and government together.
Last but not lease, Grain for Green work shall be done effectively in the problem area. Suitable lands shall continue to grow and those unsuitable lands shall be reformed to green area, in which compensation must be paid to farmers. Besides, the issue of sustainable living shall also be concerned.
The fourth unit of Honghua Village locates in the northwest of Liujiang County, with a total area of 1500 acres and 103 residents in 23 households. Being attacked by serious rainstorms, the village has suffered ground cracking and collapses in nearly 200 acres land. 8 houses have collapsed and another 77 are in danger. Lives of the villagers are threatened. Governments at local and municipal levels have been concerned about this issue and working on related works to make sure the villagers have clean food and water, as well as places to live. Specialists from the city have been corporation with local officials about ground reconnaissance and post-havoc evacuation works.
