“Lu Yong and Jiang Yuyuan are the proud of the country, the province and the Liuzhou city. They are models for fellow citizens and inspirations for our economic transform.” Secretary of Liuzhou CCP Chen Gang said during the award ceremony for Liuzhou-born Olympic champions and their coaches at Liuzhou Hotel Hall yesterday (18 August).
Chen Gang congratulated the two athletes on behalf of the government. He said the 29th Olympic Opening Ceremony had brought happiness and excitement for Liuzhou people. In the evening of August 8, Liuzhou-born retired athlete Mr. Li Ning lit up the Olympic torch in the birds’ nest, which showed a new image of Liuzhou and China to the world. On August 13, Liuzhou-born gymnastic Jiang Yuyuan got the gold medal for group gymnastics along with other five athletes. On August 15, Liuzhou-born athlete Lu Yong achieved weight-lifting 85-kilo gold medal, which marked a breakthrough in China’s weight-lifting history.
Chen Gang said the whole city were proud of their performances and inspired by them. They were the proud of Guangxi, Liuzhou, San Jiang and Yu Feng District and role models for fellow citizens. He also said Liuzhou-born athletes’ excellent performances during the Olympic Games had shown great characteristics of the city and the people. The whole city shall devote into our 2nd Carve Out project using these characters.
Mayor Zheng Junkang read out the Award Notice to Gold Medallists on the 29th Olympic Games. The two athletes were awarded 300,000 Yuan (RMB) respectively and their coaches were awarded 200,000 Yuan (RMB).
Chen Gang, Zheng Junkang, Hu Jingchao and Zhou Zhuoxin presented the awards to the athletes and their coaches. The ceremony was chaired by vice Mayor Zhang Fuhai. Na Xiang attended the ceremony.
